Screen type
It is important to choose a projection screen that matches the application. When a screen is used in a room which is often used for projection, a fixed screen would be the right choice. When the screen is used on more than one location, or a fixed installation is impossible, a mobile screen would be the right solution.

Fixed or wall screens are available with different forms of operation. Electrical screens roll in and out at the push of a button. Combined with the optional wireless remote control, the screen can be operated from any position in the room.

A more economical, but manual solution is the spring operated screen. This screen is opened when you (manually) pull it out. These screens are easily operated and are offered at an attractive price.

Aspect ratio

When choosing a screen, always think of what you would like to project. If more than one device is to be used, such as overhead and video projectors, a square screen (1:1) would be the right choice. If only data is projected (such as for business presentations), a video screen (4:3) is the best option. When you use the screen for watching DVD's at home, a widescreen (16:9) screen would be more suitable.

Size
When determining the screen size, it is important to look at the minimum viewing distance, maximum viewing distance and the right viewing height. Furthermore, you always have to take the performance and features of your projector into account.

The performance and features of your projector determine the maximum projected image size at a certain distance of the projector from the screen. It is important to determine the right distance and preferred image size in advance. If you take this into consideration, you will be sure you don't buy a screen which is too big or too small. The information on the performance and features of the projector differ per model and can be found in the technical documentation of the projector. It is advised to get this information from your vendor in advance.

You need a minimum distance to see all the projected information. When you're too close, you easily miss out on information and you find yourself in an uncomfortable viewing position. Just think of the first few rows in a cinema. The recommended minimum distance equals the screen's diagonal in case of 4:3 (video) and 16:9 (widescreen) screens. When you use a square screen 1.5 times the screen's height is recommended.

The maximum distance is the distance at which all the projected information can still be understood. For a business presentation, where a lot of the information is data, this would be4 times the screen's height. In case of a video presentation or a movie, where data is not of the highest importance, you can sit at up to 6 times the screen's height.

The right viewing height enables everyone to view the presentation from a comfortable position. In general the lower part of the screen (in it's rolled-out position) should be at least 125 cm (50 inch) from the floor. If you use the screen at home, 95 cm ( app. 37") would be the right position.
